Fish farming and research

Aquaculture is currently the fastest growing area of food production. Without research and knowledge transfer into practice there can be no progress in aquaculture. Our tasks are practice-relevant aquaculture research tailored to Austrian needs, the transfer of practice-relevant research data to producer companies, and consulting and training.

Main tasks of the fish farm Kreuzstein lie in the artificial maturation of brood stock fish, the collection of gametes, the hatching of eggs and the rearing of fish larvae to fingerling size. Fish production covers two aspects, the on-growing of endangered and ecologically important fish species for restocking purposes and the production of aquaculture fish for private fish farmers.
