Interreg CE Project INACO – second project meeting in Prague

The INACO project aims to protect natural and cultural heritage sites in Central Europe more effectively from the effects of climate change. To this end, 11 organisations from 8 countries are joining forces to develop strategies and management plans that will enable the affected regions to make more informed decisions on priorities and the use of resources. Following the completion of the first working period, the first biannual project meeting took place in Prague from 13-15 January 2025.

After an informal meeting on the first evening, the activities and work packages, some of which had already been completed, were discussed the next day and further steps and tasks were defined and discussed. The first work package focussed on the implementation of the EU Water Directive at national and regional level in the partner countries as well as other projects and strategies in Central Europe to mitigate the effects of climate change. In particular, strengths, weaknesses and gaps in the protection of climate-sensitive cultural and natural heritage sites were analysed. The next work package, which will take centre stage over the next two years, will focus on the development and introduction of an integrated system of web-based decision-making tools for the management of cultural and natural sites at risk from extreme climate hazards.

The working meeting concluded on the third day with an excursion to the Czech pilot region. The Praha-Troja district with the Troja Chateau and other cultural and natural heritage sites is embedded in a culturally and historically significant landscape. However, this is endangered by flooding of the Vltava, for which solutions are also being developed in the project.
