The innovative "CarpTrail" knowledge transfer format is organized annually by the Lower Austrian Pond Farmers' Association. This year, the series of events has the slogan "Discover the pond jewels of the Waldviertel".
When it comes to imparting knowledge about the Waldviertel's ponds, the Waldviertel Ecological Station doesn't take long.
On July 5 and 6, 2024, at a station along the guided cycle tour through the "Natura 2000 area" of the Kainz pond farm, which is otherwise closed to visitors, special features of carp pond management and
- the carp's diet
- zoo- and phytoplankton
- the food web and
- biodiversity in the pond
were presented and brought to life interactively.
A look through the microscope made it possible to observe even the smallest pond inhabitants live. On Friday, the tour was followed by the naming of the newly built "Florian Pond" by the Lower Austrian Carp Princess.
