On March 23, 1914, the ceremonial opening of the Research Institute for Hydraulic Engineering in Vienna, Severingasse 7, took place.
Construction work began almost 2 years earlier, on April 1, 1912. Originally assigned to the Ministry of Public Works, the research institute has been part of the Federal Agency for Water Management since 1995 as the Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Hydrometry. After 109 years at the same location in Severingasse, the institute moved to the new hydraulic engineering laboratory at Am Brigittenauer Sporn 3, in February 2023.
Just two days after the opening, on March 25, 1914, the Vienna University of Technology visited the new test facilities. Among the 88 people was Professor Strukel from the Helsingfors Polytechnic Institute in Finland.
